Distance 99

콜렉티브 웃은 뮤지션 레인보우99를 중심으로 비주얼 아티스트 김가현, 사진작가 박상용, 영상 감독 심건(JAN)이 함께하는 미디어아트 그룹이다. 이번 전시에서는 코로나19 상황으로 거리두기가 이어지는 지금, 사람 사이의 거리뿐만 아니라 자연과 인간, 제주와 우리에게도 지켜야 할 거리가 필요하다는 것을 이야기하고자 한다.

일반적으로 ‘거리’를 뜻하는 ‘Distance’는 두 대상 간의 위치 차이를 정의하거나 수치화할 때 사용하는 용어이다. 출품작 <Distance99>는 거리센서와 연동된 세 대의 모니터에 제주에서 촬영하고 기록한 영상과 소리를 담았다. 관람객이 모니터와의 일정 거리를 넘어 가까이 다가가면 영상과 소리가 비현실적으로 변형된다. 또한, 전시실 입구 계단에는 <시작도 끝도 존재하지 않는다>라는 제목의 사운드 작업이 재생된다. 긴 호흡으로 담은 제주의 소리는 이 섬의 끝없는 흐름을 짐작하게 한다. <오름의 지금> 은 제주 4.3의 역사가 숨어있는 장소에 찾아가 현재 모습이 주는 감정을 음악, 영상, 사진 작업으로 담고 음원과 음반, 공연과 전시까지 연결한 프로젝트다. 제주국제평화센터에서는 이와 관련된 공연을 라이브로 진행하고, 영상으로 담아 전시 기간 동안 상영한다.

Distance 99

Collective OOTT is a media art group composed of visual artist Gahyun Kim, photographer Sangyong Park, and video director Jan.K Sim, and musician Rainbow99 in its center. With the social distancing in practice from COVID-19, Collective OOTT talks about the necessity of keeping the distance not only between people but also between people and nature, and Jeju and ourselves.

The word distance defines or quantifies the difference in position between two objects. <Distance 99> contains the video and sound recorded and filmed in Jeju on three monitors linked to a sensor. When the audience approaches the monitor beyond a certain point, the image and sound transmit idiosyncratic distortions. Also, a sound work titled <CYCLE> is played at the stairs leading to the exhibition room. The continuous sound of Jeju captured with a long breath allows the audience to feel the endless flow of this island. <OREUM> is a project where the artists visited places where the history of Jeju 4.3 lies, capturing the emotions through music, video, and photography works. Then they are linked to the sound sources, records, performances, and exhibitions. International Peace Center Jeju presents the live performances and screens the recorded video at the exhibition.
